How to beat stress - tips from a tech student !

Stress or may I say the-mindset-mood killer?

As a student, this is very common for me to have to the point where at times I must take a step back realizing that it has become part of me and without it I tend to feel abnormal - which again is not very healthy.

I spent years falling into the loop of stress and at times it seems like nobody really talks about it. Being stressed became a trend and I believe that should change.
My major is not that helpful when it comes to time management and dedicating some time for myself (this goes for every major but I will speak out of experience and my position).

As finals season ended lately, projects and internships are on the way! Which means very little time to put together a better timetable for myself this "summer" ; But one thing I have always believed in is that if you wish to make something work then you will make it happen!

So here is what I do when stress starts to kick in :
  • The "Pomodoro Technique" : work for 25 mins / rest for 5 mins. It's as simple as that! Rather than overworking yourself for hours and questioning every single detail, why not invest little time and feel productive as well as relaxed enough.
tip : There are countdown videos on Youtube that you can just play according to the amount                        of hours you wish to work and tada all done! Work smarter not harder.
  • Snacks ! Feed your brain !! For each break you take, reward yourself with a snack!! You can't expect to get the best out of yourself without fueling your body. Get those fruits, that chocolate, that juice .. anything!
  • Meditate for 5 minutes before starting ! I must admit that this took (still does oops) a while to build as a habit but it's very grounding. Focusing on the present instead of freaking out about that exam, that interview or that job task you must get done for tomorrow. Take some time to breathe !! It will do you good.
  • Let it out. Talk to a close friend, a family member, a pet or even a journal! Easier said than done and you have probably heard it before but it is not healthy to build up a pile of emotions inside of you especially under stress. It does nothing but attract more negativity and stress to you and that is surely not what you wish!
  • Take a moment and sit down with yourself. What's the worst that could happen? Failing that exam? Your boss being disappointed in you? None of that holds as much value as your health does! Hard work always pays off and some times things just don't work out, and it in no way means that it's the end and it is over.

All in all, it is true that everyone lately hustles left and right. Everyone is too busy being hooked on their work/studies that they tend to forget about their personal life. Why not take a step back and create more space for yourself where you allow yourself to be as relaxed as you wish to be?
